Workation at
Urara
Takashima

40 minutes from Kyoto. Undisturbed quiet, work & stay surrounded by nature.

You can work here, too.

Wi-Fi. Quiet surroundings. A place to sit and focus. But that doesn’t have to be the only reason you come. The air and the pace of Takashima might just be your best work tools.

A Plan for Remote & Nomad Work

Do you ever feel like this?

w

Lately, I haven't had time to just relax and do nothing.

w

Not quite ready for a trip, but I want a change of scenery.

w

I want time to do nothing, at my own pace.

w

I want a place to share space with others without feeling intruded upon.

w

Working at cafes has its limits. I'm looking for a more comfortable place to focus.

w

It would be nice to have a loose connection with others in an unfamiliar place.

Make Life and Work Lighter at "Urara Takashima"

Not a tourist spot, not a hotel, not a shared office — a unique third place that exists only here.

Quiet and a Comfortable Solitude

A satoyama environment free of excess noise and light — perfect whether you want to focus deeply or simply do nothing at all.

A Pleasant Kind of Inconvenience
Guests often say it feels like visiting their grandmother's house. Doze off on the engawa porch, lie back on the tatami. It's not quite a historic folk house, but let your body remember the comforts of a traditional Japanese home.
Convenient, Yet Rural
10 minutes by car to convenience stores, supermarkets, and the station. Day trips to Kyoto or Osaka are easy too, so you're covered for sudden outings or shopping.
Cook Your Own Meals, Save on Food
Freely use the spacious kitchen, cookware, and dishes. Breakfast is included in the rate, and optional meal plans are also available.
Bonfires, Hot Springs, and a Wood Stove
Enjoy bonfires, nearby hot springs, and gathering around the wood stove in winter. We also occasionally hold optional yoga classes and mini music gatherings.
The Longer You Stay, The More You Save
10% off for stays of 2 nights or more, with special plans for month-long stays. The longer you stay, the more you'll love it here.
Four Seasons

Four Seasons,
Four Ways to Enjoy Them

Takashima's nature shows a different face each season. Perhaps the greatest joy here isn't what you do, but simply feeling the air of each season.

Spring
  • Foraging for wild vegetables in the backyard
  • Cycling along Lake Biwa
  • Walking paths lined with cherry blossoms and canola flowers
  • Relaxed reading on the engawa porch
Summer
  • Cooling off in the evening on the porch
  • Fireworks in the backyard
  • Searching for beetles
  • Playing in the nearby river
Autumn
  • The metasequoia tree-lined avenue
  • Bonfires in the backyard
  • Chestnut and persimmon harvesting
  • Touring mountain hot springs
Winter
  • Gathering around the wood stove
  • Morning walks through snowy scenery
  • Hot springs along Lake Biwa
  • Nights around the nabe hot pot

A Place for the Luxury of Doing Nothing

It's great precisely because it's not a tourist spot. Time spent surrounded by nature without a packed schedule is the ultimate reset. The longer you stay, the more relaxed you become — a curious place that makes you want to return.

Work and Refresh Without Watching the Clock

I work freelance in Tokyo, and once a month I come here for 2-3 nights to clear my head. It's quiet and easy to focus, and breakfast being included keeps my rhythm steady. The quality of my work has clearly improved.

Healthy Living Through Satoyama Walks

Just stepping outside for a walk between work sessions clears my head. In city cafes I was always sitting, but here I naturally started moving my body.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Can I go sightseeing?

There's plenty to see, like the Makino Metasequoia Avenue, Lake Biwa, and Shirahige Shrine. That said, at Urara Takashima we value ‘living as if you belong here,’ so we don't especially encourage sightseeing tours. We hope you'll enjoy the small delights instead — the sound of mountain water, rare butterflies, or a chance encounter with wild vegetables.

I want to relax quietly — will it be crowded?

As a small-scale property, you can enjoy a calm, relaxed environment. Even when sharing the same space, we value a comfortable sense of distance that doesn’t feel intrusive.

What are the options for meals?

You’re free to use the kitchen, and seasonings and dishware are provided. Lunch and dinner can be arranged as optional add-ons, or you can visit a convenience store, supermarket, or restaurant about 10 minutes away by car.

Are late-night snacks or light meals available?

Cup noodles, snacks, drip coffee, and tea are available for purchase on-site.

What amenities are provided?

We provide toothbrushes, shampoo and conditioner, and towels (large and small).

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is from 3:00 PM, and check-out is by 12:00 PM. Early check-in and late check-out are available for ¥500 per hour (advance notice required).

Is it suitable for telework or online meetings?

Wi-Fi is available throughout. A private meeting space can also be used (please contact us at least 2 days in advance if other guests are present).

Can I stay long-term?

Month-long stays are also welcome. We offer special rate plans for repeat guests, so please feel free to contact us.
